The house has descended from the Famous family to the Calthorpes in 1628 and in 1720 to the L’Estranges and then to the Astleys. In the 18th Century the west wing of the house became a semi-ruin and attracted numerous artists and antiquaries including Cotman and Pugin.
Throughout most of the 19th Century the East Wing of the house remained inhabited and in 1922 a restoration was commissioned which was completed in 1936. The picturesque Georgian town of Holt is approximately 9 miles distant and provides an excellent range of shops, the area has good schools with Beeston Hall preparatory school nearby at West Runton.
